    FAQs

How many bricks do I need per square foot?

For a wall, a standard brick shows an 8" x 2¼" face, so with ½" mortar joints you need about 6.2 bricks per square foot. Laid flat as a floor or patio (8" x 3½" face), it is about 4.2 per square foot. Thinner joints mean a few more bricks. The calculator does this math for any of our bricks, thin brick or stone.

How many reclaimed bricks are on a pallet?

A pallet holds 504 standard reclaimed bricks (8" x 3½" x 2¼"), enough for about 80 sq ft of single-layer wall with ½" joints. Jumbo, clinker and street paver bricks come 450 to a pallet. You can also buy bricks by the unit, and the calculator rounds up to a full pallet when that costs less.

How much mortar do I need for reclaimed bricks?

Plan on about one 38.5 lb bag of Ecologic NHL 3.5 lime mortar for every 30 standard bricks with ½" joints, or about 17 bags per pallet of bricks. The calculator adjusts this for your brick size and joint, and can add the mortar to your cart.

How much extra should I order for cuts and waste?

Add 5% for a simple wall or floor, and 10% or more if your project has many corners, openings or cuts. Reclaimed bricks and stones vary piece to piece, so a little extra lets you pick the best faces and keeps you from running short of matching material later.

Can I use the calculator for thin brick veneer?

Yes. Choose thin brick wall veneer to count the face of each piece on a wall, or thin brick floor tile for floors. For outside corners, choose thin brick corner veneer and enter the total length of your corners in linear feet: each L-shaped piece covers one course.
