About Our Materials
What’s the difference between reclaimed bricks and new bricks?
Reclaimed bricks come from historic East Coast buildings and offer authentic patina, stronger fired clay, and higher character. New bricks provide uniformity and are better when a project requires exact color consistency and ASTM compliance. Check our article Reclaimed vs New Bricks, What Should I Pick?
Where do your reclaimed cobblestones come from?
Our cobblestones are reclaimed from streets and historic sites around New York and New England. Each stone carries natural wear, making them extremely durable and aesthetically unique. Read our article What Makes the New York Cobblestones So Special?
What are Belgian blocks?
Belgian blocks are rectangular granite stones used for driveways, edging, aprons, and landscape features. Chief Bricks supplies new jumbo Belgian blocks from India as well as reclaimed stones.
Are reclaimed materials structurally sound?
Yes. All reclaimed bricks and stones are inspected for strength, integrity, and consistency before being sold. Due to their nature, reclaimed materials are not subjected to modern chemical or physical testing and do not meet ASTM standards.
