What are granite treads and where are they used?

Granite treads are solid natural stone slabs designed for exterior stairway steps, landings, entry stoops, garden steps, and architectural accents. They provide a cohesive look when paired with other granite products and fit both residential and commercial hardscape projects.

Are these granite treads slip-resistant and safe in wet or icy conditions?

Yes. These granite treads feature a thermal (flamed) top surface that creates a textured, non-slip finish ideal for outdoor use in wet, icy, or high-traffic conditions, reducing the risk of slips and falls.

Do granite treads require sealing or special maintenance?

Granite is naturally low-maintenance. Routine sweeping and occasional washing with mild soap and water is usually enough. Sealing is optional but can help protect against stains in high-use areas.

Can I install granite treads myself?

Because granite is heavy and requires a stable, level base and proper bonding (especially when placed on concrete), professional installation is strongly recommended for safety, durability, and a long-lasting result.

Will granite treads crack or be affected by weather over time?

Granite is extremely durable with low water absorption, and when installed on a proper base it resists cracking, freeze–thaw cycles, and heavy foot traffic better than most other materials, making it ideal for long-term outdoor use.
